SEEING IS BELIEVING
Given the fact that the US has over 4000 post-secondary educational institutions and that each one of them has their own unique set of strengths, resources and characteristics, it is imperative that students are aware of what to expect before applying to any of these colleges. In this sense, we take the philosophy of "walking the walk", which constitutes of visiting the actual campuses, as a necessary part of the VMA experience.
At VMA, we help our students and parents gain relevant first-hand information that is different from reading articles online or word of mouth. This is why our College Counseling Office goes to great lengths to organize our summer school visits for VMAers to gain the experience of being at a college in the US. We believe that when it comes to choosing a college, action does speak louder than words. Just watching YouTube Videos about New York University doesn’t cut it for us. Being there physically, talking to current students, going to the main student hubs, watching artists put on a show and roaming the streets of downtown New York is an experience that will help shape their decision. This is our philosophy in helping students find the school or city that truly fits our students.
Over the past few years, our school has designed five routes for school visits: the California route, Pennsylvania route, Northeastern route, New York route and Mid-West route. For each route, we have included a selection of schools that are suitable for students based on their interests and strengths. Furthermore, having counselors actually going with our students during the visits can really help the students understand schools from a different perspective.
”School visits have allowed kids the opportunities to see for themselves if they fit this or that college. Every day during our trip we sat down together at night and talked about how we felt about the schools we visited that day. By the end of our two-week sojourn in New York State, some kids already found the colleges they would like to be part of!“
